Abstract
This study designs and implements an Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring and controlling system for the magnetic separator installed on the coal conveyor belt at Pelabuhan Ratu Steam Power Plant, West Java. The conventional system in use has limitations in real-time monitoring, potentially causing equipment damage and reducing operational efficiency. The proposed system employs an ESP8266 microcontroller and JSN-SR04T ultrasonic sensors to measure coal flow height and detect metal accumulation on the magnetic separator. Sensor data are transmitted in real time to the Blynk application, which provides digital visualization and automatically controls the metal disposal actuator. Experimental results indicate that the sensors achieved an average relative error of less than 2% within the 20– 100 cm range, with fast system response and reliable actuator activation according to detection conditions. The implementation improves the effectiveness of metal separation, prevents potential damage to the coal mill, and supports the continuity of boiler combustion.
