Abstract

This research aims to examine the effect of using E-Books as a learning medium on students' learning interest and motivation at the elementary school level. This research uses a quasi experimental design (quasi experimental design) with initial and final questionnaire designs. The population consisted of 80 grade 5 students from two elementary schools in Cikakak District, with 40 students as the experimental group who used E-Books and 40 students as the control group who used physical books. This research uses a purposive sampling technique, a sampling technique, the researcher deliberately selects subjects based on certain characteristics or criteria that are relevant to the research question. Data collection instruments include a Likert Scale in the form of a questionnaire to measure students' interest and motivation in learning (administered as initial and final questionnaires), as well as structured observation sheets to observe student involvement during the learning process. Documentation as additional data that the research has been carried out. Data were analyzed using the Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) technique to test multivariate differences between groups. The research results showed that there was a significant influence from the use of E-Books on students' learning interest and motivation simultaneously (Pillai's Trace = 0.857; p < 0.001). Observations support these findings by showing higher levels of participation and focus in students who use e-books. It can be concluded that the use of E-Books as a learning medium has the potential to increase student interest and motivation in learning at the elementary school level. This research provides implications for educators and curriculum developers in considering the strategic integration of digital media such as E-Books to increase student interest and motivation in learning at the elementary school level.
