Abstract

Efficient and safe intersections are an important part of urban traffic management. Unsignalized intersections are one of the most common types of intersections. The aim of this research is to examine the performance of unsignalized intersections in Jalan Karang Tengah Ludaya-Simpang Nagrak, Sipadak-Sukabumi. The data collection approach is a field survey, i.e. monitoring traffic at intersections for three days every Monday, Wednesday and Sunday, 3, 5 and 9 April 2023. The parameters observed were delay time, average speed, density level and accident rate. The data obtained were examined using MKJI 1997 criteria to determine amplitude and delay at intersections. The results of the capacity study are used to determine the degree of traffic service at this intersection, which is subsequently classified into several levels of service (LOS). better. Peak times for delays are 07:00 - 08:00 (am) and 16:00 - 18:00 (afternoon). This causes traffic congestion and reduces the average speed of cars. The population density exceeds the ideal capacity of the intersection, which may cause congestion and traffic inconvenience. Based on the results of this investigation, it is recommended that repairs be made at the intersection. Widening the road, modifying the layout of crossings, and giving priority to vehicles are all possible improvements. By implementing these changes, it is expected to improve the performance of road intersections, reduce waiting time, enhance average speed, and reduce the risk of accidents. This study contributes significantly to the development of transportation and traffic management systems in urban areas. The results of this study are intended to serve as a resource for local governments as they aim to promote and build more efficient and safe intersections.
