Abstract

Reading is a process carried out and used by readers to obtain messages and information, which the writer wishes to convey through the medium of words or written language. The ability to read is a necessity in life, not only in terms of educational life, but also very important in social life, reading skills are the main capital of students. There are still some students who lack reading skills and are not yet fluent in mastering and understanding the content of the reading they read. This research aims to determine the reading skills of class II B students at SD Negeri 09 Karangtengah before and after implementing the SAS (Synthetic Structural Analytical) learning method. So through reading skills using the SAS learning method so that children's reading skills can be better and more fluent. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (PTK) with a naturalistic approach. The research design uses the Lewin Kemis and Mc model. Teggart, each step consists of 4 steps, namely planning, implementing, observing and reflecting using 2 cycles. The subjects of this research were 37 class II B students at SD Negeri 09 Karangtengah. The research instruments used were tests, non-tests and documentation. Data collection techniques used are through observation, tests and documentation. The form of test used is pre-test and post-test. The expected result of this research is that the application of the SAS method will be a solution to the low reading skills of students experiencing changes and improvements during learning. The results of the research before applying the SAS method showed that 30% of the 37 students could not understand the content of the reading they read, students were classified as low. Students' reading skills through the application of the SAS method are characterized by increased student learning activeness in the learning process according to the results obtained during the classroom action process. The average score obtained by students after taking the final test from cycle I to cycle II after applying the SAS method increased from 77.3% in cycle I to 86.2% of the ideal score achieved, namely 100. Learning completion of class II students B SD Negeri 09 Karangtengah also experienced an increase, namely from 75.7% in the first cycle to 88.9% in the second cycle, students' classical learning mastery was achieved.
