Abstract
Hoax is information or news that contains uncertain or unfounded elements about something that actually happened. The spread of political hoax news is rampant nowadays, especially in the realm of political news. The spread of political hoax news worsens during election seasons, as social media platforms are used not only for positive campaigning but also exploited by irresponsible parties for negative campaigns. The impact of spreading hoax news has serious consequences and dangers for many parties, causing losses in various aspects such as time, economy, public panic, deterioration of social relations, and more. The purpose of this research is to minimize the negative effects of the spread of political hoax news on social media. Therefore, the researcher developed a political hoax news prediction model using the Random Forest algorithm. The accuracy of the political hoax news prediction model using the Random Forest algorithm is 85%, and the ground truth results show that the model correctly detects 264 out of 376 political hoax news articles spread on social media and accurately identifies 286 out of 376 non-hoax political news articles circulating on social media.
