Abstract

Based on the findings of the current study, learner education has produced some very impressive results. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to identify the factors that influence the effectiveness of teaching and learning and students' understanding of the material through the use of a problem-based learning approach, which can increase students' understanding of the material and help students achieve their academic goals. This study uses Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject matter is class III students at SDN 2 Kompa. The methods used to collect data in this study are observation, student ability tests, and documentation. The data analysis method used here uses four steps, namely planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting on class action. The results of this study indicate that problem-based learning is a promising method for improving the reading comprehension of third-grade students at SDN 2 Kompa. The increase can come from the performance of the first cycle of students, and if there is no change then the performance of the second cycle of students can be improved. The results of the research that in the first cycle of students there are still some who are not complete. Therefore, researchers conducted research again in cycle II. With the results in cycle II, even though there were some that were not completed, the students understood what the teacher conveyed.
