Abstract

In this digital era, with the existence of social media such as Instagram which attracts the interest of many people in terms of existence and journalism or news, of course the role of photography is very important to support these things. But there are still many people who don't understand how to create a good photo work and convey the message in it. This is the background for researchers to better introduce how to make a good photographic work by applying and understanding composition in photography. This study aims to determine the interpretation of composition and what message is conveyed in a photo, and in this study the researchers took a work sample for analysis, namely the Wanderlust photo series by Steve McCurry. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method. From the research results, the data obtained on Steve McCurry's Wanderlust photo series, namely, the work uses two photo formats, namely horizontal and vertical, uses many photographic compositions, and only one thing is the same from several of his works, namely using natural light or direct natural light. comes from the sun but with a different direction of light. The application of photographic composition and blending of light brings out the message from Steve McCurry's Wanderlust series, which is a journey. Everyone has a different journey, the capital to travel is different, the background for traveling is also different. Even though every trip is different, one thing in common is that every trip must have is a purpose and the message it conveys in that destination.
