Abstract

This research is motivated by the low understanding of Natural Science (IPA) concepts in the subject of Natural Science in grade V of SDN 1 Lembursawah. Most students have not reached the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM), so it is necessary to implement more effective learning strategies. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Somatic, Auditory, Visualization, Intellectual (SAVI) learning model in improving the understanding of Natural Science concepts. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research subjects consisted of 40 students of class VA as the experimental class and 44 students of class VB as the control class, selected through a saturated sampling technique. The research instrument was a concept understanding test in the form of multiple-choice questions. Data analysis techniques include validity test, normality test, homogeneity test, t-test, and N-Gain test. The results showed that the average post-test score in the experimental class was higher than the control class. The t-test produced a significance of 0.000 (<0.05), which indicates a significant difference between the two classes. Furthermore, the N-Gain test results showed an 80% increase in understanding in the experimental class, categorized as quite effective, while the control class only achieved a 13% increase, categorized as ineffective. These findings demonstrate that the SAVI learning model is effective in improving understanding of science concepts in fifth-grade students at SDN 1 Lembursawah.
