Abstract
This study aims to analyze the influence of economic conditions, financial literacy, and feelings of hopelessness on the courage of Generation Z in taking extreme financial risks, particularly the decision to go “All in” in online gambling practices in Sukabumi City, with social environment acting as a moderating variable. Utilizing a quantitative approach with the Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method, this research involved 385 respondents from Generation Z who have engaged in online gambling activities. The findings reveal that financial literacy and hopelessness significantly influence the willingness to take risks, whereas economic conditions show no significant effect. Moreover, the social environment significantly moderates the relationship between both hopelessness and financial literacy with the decision to go “All in,” but not with economic conditions. These findings highlight that psychological and social factors are more dominant than rational economic considerations in influencing extreme decision-making behaviors in online gambling. Therefore, preventive efforts targeting online gambling among Generation Z should adopt a multidimensional approach that includes financial education, psychological support, and the development of a healthy social environment.
