Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Consumer behavior and Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) on personal financial management with financial literacy as a mediating variable on Generation Z users of Online loan applications. The phenomenon of increasing use of digital financial services by the younger generation encourages the need to understand the psychological and behavioral factors that influence personal financial management. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. With a sample consisting of 70 Generation Z respondents aged 17 to 28 years who use Online loan applications. The data analysis technique used is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on Partial Least Square (PLS) with the help of SmartPLS 4.0 software. The results of this study indicate that Consumer behavior and FOMO do not have a direct effect on personal financial management. However, both have an indirect effect through financial literacy as a mediating variable. In addition, financial literacy has a positive and significant effect on personal financial management. This finding confirms that financial literacy is a key factor in shaping healthy financial behavior in Generation Z. Based on these results, it is recommended for Generation Z to improve financial literacy in order to manage finances wisely in the digital era. Educational institutions, governments, and Online loan application developers are also expected to play an active role in building a financial literacy ecosystem that is relevant and easily accessible to the younger generation.
