PERAN LEMBAGA SWADAYA MASYARAKAT (LSM) DALAM PENGELOLAAN LINGKUNGAN DI KABUPATEN SUKABUMI

This study discusses the role and effectiveness of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in environmental management in Sukabumi Regency. The background of this research is based on the increasing pressure on natural resources due to population growth and massive industrialization, which often negatively impacts the environment, such as pollution, deforestation, and social conflicts. Although Indonesia has a strong legal framework through Law Number 32 of 2009 on Environmental Protection and Management, its implementation still faces various challenges. This is where the role of NGOs becomes crucial as independent actors who engage in advocacy, education, monitoring, and reporting of environmental violations. The aim of this research is to analyze the extent to which NGOs play a role in overseeing environmental law enforcement in Sukabumi, as
well as to identify the challenges and opportunities they face. The method used in this study is empirical juridical with a descriptive-analytical approach. The results of the research show that NGOs in Sukabumi Regency hold a strategic role in
environmental management. They are actively involved in managing and protecting the environment, promoting progressive environmental policies, raising public awareness, and monitoring and reporting environmental violations. However, their effectiveness depends on internal capacity, government support, and collaboration with other stakeholders.
