Abstract
The Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) strategy is one of the learning strategies that refers to a thin- control essence of learning, where students themselves play an active role in constructing their prior knowledge. The POE strategy consists of three main stages: Predict, where students are encouraged to estimate the content of a story based on a given stimulus; Observe, where students observe the information or situation presented to compare it with their initial predictions; and Explain, where students explain the differences and develop a story based on their observations. This study aims to improve students' ability in writing short stories using the POE strategy. The research employed a qualitative method with a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, conducted in two learning cycles. The research subjects were 20 students at SD Kehidupan Baru. he results showed a significant improvement. In Cycle I, the students' mastery percentage reached only 58%, but after action revisions, it increased in Cycle II to 90%, with an average score of 80.31. These findings indicate that the POE strategy is effective in enhancing students' ability to write short stories in a creative and systematic manner.
