Abstract
This thesis aims to analyze the representation of beauty and the issue of beauty privilege in the Korean drama Mask Girl using Roland Barthes' qualitative and semiotic approach. Korean dramas have become a global phenomenon that influences the perception of beauty and standards of beauty in society. This research will use a qualitative approach to gain an in-depth understanding of how beauty and beauty privilege are represented in the drama. The research method used is Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis by identifying the visual signs and messages contained in the drama Mask Girl which relate to beauty and beauty privilege. This research will analyze how these signs shape meaning and influence the audience's perception of beauty and beauty privilege. It is hoped that the results of this research will provide deeper insight into how the representation of beauty and beauty privilege in Korean dramas is understood through Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. This research can also contribute to media and culture studies in understanding the influence of mass media on perceptions of beauty and beauty privilege in society.
