Abstract

Fishermen in Kampung Mariuk, Sukabumi Regency, currently still fulfill their block ice needs from the city of Sukabumi, which is approximately 80 kilometers away, due to the limited block ice supply from the ice factory in Palabuhan Ratu. Therefore, they still require an ice plant that can supply their block ice demand. Based on a survey, it was found that the fishermen need around 1,250 kg of block ice for each fishing trip. This research aims to design a refrigeration machine that is expected to produce block ice to meet the needs of the fishermen in Kampung Mariuk, Sukabumi Regency. Based on the ice demand, a refrigeration machine was designed with a capacity of 1,400 kg of block ice per cycle (12 hours). The design method used in this study, titled "DESAIN MESIN REFRIGERASI KAPASITAS
1.400 KG PERHARI UNTUK PABRIK ES NELAYAN DI KABUPATEN
SUKABUMI", is the French Design Method, which is known for being systematic and is widely applied in the field of mechanical engineering. Based on the calculations performed, the refrigeration capacity obtained is 13.25 kW, requiring a compressor power of 3.12 kW and a condenser capacity of 16.36 kW. There is no significant difference in the percentage of heat retention between three-layer insulation materials (7 mm carbon steel, 10 cm polyurethane, and 7 mm carbon steel) and two-layer insulation materials (10 cm polyurethane and 7 mm carbon steel). The addition of a carbon steel layer in the three-layer configuration does not practically affect insulation performance, as the thermal resistance of carbon steel is very low compared to polyurethane.
