Abstract

The increasing volume of waste at the Cikundul Landfill in Sukabumi City poses significant challenges in achieving sustainable environmental management. Poorly managed waste can lead to severe environmental pollution, public health risks, and increased greenhouse gas emissions. However, waste also holds immense potential as a renewable energy source, particularly through the utilization of methane gas produced via anaerobic biodegradation processes. This study aims to analyze and optimize the energy potential from waste at the Cikundul Landfill using the LandGEM model. Seven years of waste data (2017-2023) were utilized to predict methane gas production and the corresponding energy potential. The results reveal that methane gas production reaches 2,182,000 m³ per year, while the total landfill gas production is 4,363,000 m³ per year. Assuming a 25% efficiency of the waste- to-energy plant (PLTSa), the potential electricity generation is estimated at 5,453.75 MW annually. This study demonstrates that the LandGEM model is an effective tool for predicting and optimizing renewable energy utilization from waste. Additionally, the findings serve as a foundation for developing more environmentally friendly and sustainable waste management strategies in the future.
