Abstract
The Vehicles that use fossil fuels such as gasoline or diesel as their energy source to operate continuously can reduce the exploitation of natural resources which damage the environment. This research compares the economics of conventional fossil fuel cars and hydrogen cars using the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) method over a 10 year period. Although fossil fuel vehicles are still dominant and have negative environmental impacts such as CO2 emissions, hydrogen technology is emerging as an alternative with a longer range and faster charging time compared to battery-based electric vehicles. The results indicate that the initial cost comparison between the two types of vehicles shows a difference of approximately 7.27%, equivalent to IDR 57,825,662.4. Furthermore, the difference in fuel consumption between gasoline and hydrogen over a distance of 5 km to 15 km amounts to approximately 74%, or IDR 4,638 to IDR 13,917. In terms of Total Cost, the difference is around 14.40%, or IDR 108,625,632. The Asset Value (at Year 10) shows a difference of approximately 7.85%, or IDR 28,912,831, while the Economic Value differs by about 20.66%, or IDR 79,712,801 between the two vehicle types. With the same annual depreciation rate, the difference in the annual depreciation amount and remaining book value is due to the difference in the initial price and residual value of the vehicle. These findings highlight the importance of considering multiple factors in TCO analysis, and indicate the potential for long- term efficiency and cost savings of hydrogen cars, especially in the context of energy sustainability and reduced environmental impact.
