Abstract

PT. X is an automotive company that produces four-wheeled vehicles with a painting process using the Electrodeposition Painting method. In N19 products, there are often defects in the PTED area, especially stain (47%), dirt (19%), rough (24%), and cissing (11%) defects, which cause downtime and the need for repairs. This study applies the Six Sigma DMAIC method (Define, Measure, Analyze Improve, Control) to identify and overcome defects. During May–October 2023, there were 123 defective units with a DPMO value of 24,651.2 and a sigma level of 2,28. The main focus is on overcoming stain defects, which reaches 58 units. The analysis showed that the defect was caused by a method factor, namely the absence of a checking procedure in an area prone to potential stain defects. Repairs were made by closing the gap using a sealer and revising the work method, including adding a checking jobdesk to the potential for the stain defect. As a result, stain defects were successfully reduced from 58 units to 0, so that it could reduce downtime and improve the quality of the production process in the N19 unit in the PTED area.
