Abstract

Every building inhabited by humans produces fecal waste which must be managed properly to prevent environmental pollution. One way to process fecal waste is to use a Waste Water Treatment Plant (IPAL) which can be a Septic Tank, either precast or conventional. The precast Septic Tank concept is the concept of building a septic tank by printing or building it first before installing it in place, while conventional Septic Tanks are individual IPALs. Conventional Septic Tanks can be made using bricks and concrete with technical specifications designed in such a way. The aim of this research is to compare costs between conventional and precast Septic Tanks using experimental analysis methods. Apart from that, this research also aims to provide an overview for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in opening a precast Septic Tank production business. The method used in this research is experimental analysis, where production cost data for conventional and precast Septic Tanks will be collected and analyzed. The results of this research show that the cost of constructing a Septic Tank using the conventional method is cheaper than the precast method with a cost difference of Rp. 1,877,669 thus it can be concluded that the cost is much cheaper when compared to the cost of a conventional Indonesian National Standard (SNI) Septic Tank. In terms of time, a precast Waste Water Treatment Plant (IPAL) only takes 3 days, and is 2 days faster than conventional methods. The Septic Tank design proposed in this research has better performance in processing domestic waste.
