Abstract
In the industrial era 4.0, energy needs are very important, especially electrical energy. All household, office and industrial equipment requires electrical energy. This has triggered an acceleration in capacity development in new and renewable energy. One of the energies that has the potential to be developed in Indonesia is biomass to be used as fuel. The combination of burning coal and biomass is a viable alternative to reduce emissions without compromising efficiency. Co-firing is burning two different types of materials at the same time and combining them with cheaper renewable alternative fuels with a certain ratio combination so that it can reduce coal use and reduce the basic cost of electricity production. Biomass is mixed into the coal bunker. The fuel mixture is flowed to the combustion chamber or furnace. The biomass used in this research is sawdust (wood powder). The sawdust is collected from several locations, and then sent to the PLTU 3 × 350 MW for mixing before being fed to the coal bunker. The research method used is a qualitative approach with case studies as the main focus. The results of this study show that co-firing in coal-fired power plants with a capacity of 3 × 350 MW has advantages and disadvantages in the co-firing method, in terms of economy, production costs are advantageous and do not interfere with the reliability of electricity production in the power generation system. However, the disadvantage of the co-firing method is that there is an increase in emission values at SO2 (sulfur oxide) worth 28 % and an increase in emissions at CO (carbon monoxide) worth 5 %.
