Abstract

This study aims to improve the reading skills of students with reading difficulties in grade III at SDN Pasirdoton through the implementation of a reading tutoring program. The research objectives include a description of the reading tutoring strategy, evaluation of the success of the program, and identification of inhibiting factors in the implementation of reading tutoring. The research method used was a case study with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and documentation related to the reading tutoring program. The results showed that the specially designed tutoring program was able to significantly improve students' reading skills, especially in terms of word recognition, reading comprehension, and reading interest. An individualized approach using appropriate teaching aids succeeded in overcoming various obstacles faced by students. However, the study also identified some challenges such as students' concentration difficulties and limited resources. The findings highlight the importance of an individualized approach and a conducive learning environment in overcoming students' reading difficulties. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of more effective reading intervention programs.
