The book “Diary Cewek Indigo X-Tension No. 2” by Tiara is a popular comic book among teenagers because it presents the story of a girl's spiritual journey, who possesses supernatural or indigo abilities. This book was chosen not only because of its engaging storyline but also because it features various illustrations that are equally captivating to analyze for the meanings and messages conveyed through them using semiotics theory.
In this research, an analysis will be conducted by applying Roland Barthes' semiotics to the illustrations within the “Diary Cewek Indigo X-Tension No. 2” to unveil the symbolic meanings in the visual style and narrative employed. This research adopts a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis techniques, involving data collection from the illustrations within the book “Diary Cewek Indigo X-Tension No. 2” and an analysis of the symbolic meanings contained within these illustrations.
The results of the analysis using Roland Barthes' semiotics theory on the comic book “Diary Cewek Indigo X-Tension No. 2” reveal the meanings embedded in various symbols within the illustrations in this book. This study aims to provide a deeper understanding of the use of symbolism in book illustrations and contribute to the development of studies on illustration and semiotics in the realm of visual communication design.
