Abstract

This study aims to analyze the composition and semiotics in human interest photography by Arbain Rambey, a renowned Indonesian photographer known for his extraordinary ability to capture everyday moments with high aesthetic value. The research approach used is a qualitative descriptive method with photographic composition analysis and Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. Data were collected through literature study and visual analysis of Arbain Rambey's works selected purposively. The results of the study show that Arbain Rambey consistently applies composition principles such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing to create balance and focus in each photo. Semiotic analysis reveals that every visual element in Rambey's works functions not only as an aesthetic component but also as a symbol conveying deep messages about human life, culture, and emotions.
In the context of human interest, Rambey's photos successfully capture expressions, interactions, and situations that evoke empathy and deep reflection in the viewers. Each image carries a strong narrative and provides insights into the social and cultural conditions in Indonesia. This research contributes significantly to a deeper understanding of how composition and semiotic elements in photography can be used to convey strong and profound human interest messages.
