Abstract

The main problem in this study was motivated by the students' speaking skills which
were less honed. As a result, the learning process does not run effectively. This study
focuses on the application of the think pair share cooperative model to improving
students' speaking skills which are still low. The purpose of this study was to
determine the planning, implementation and use of the think pair share cooperative
model on students' speaking skills. Based on these objectives, skills need to be
stimulated optimally so that students are more confident in appearing in public. The
use of audio-visual media is seen as an effective medium to stimulate students'
speaking skills. This study uses the type of Classroom Action Research developed
by Khemmis and Mc. Taggart which consists of planning, implementation,
observation and reflection. The approach uses a qualitative descriptive approach.
This research was conducted at SD Negeri 1 Parakansalak, the subjects in this study
were 25 grade IV students. This research was conducted in two cycles consisting of
four stages in each cycle, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection.
Data collection techniques used in this study include observation sheets, company
sheets and documentation. The results of this study indicate an increase in students'
speaking skills after being treated using the think pair share cooperative model.
This increase can be seen from the average pre cycle of 71.2%, the first cycle
averaged 74.2% and the second cycle experienced an increase in speaking skills
which amounted to 84%. So that the application of the think pair share cooperative
model assisted by audio-visual media can be used to improve students' speaking
skills.
