Abstract

One of the best gifts that God gives is the gift of a child, including a child who has
special needs and needs special education. What is meant by special education is a
child who needs special care mentally, intellectually, emotionally, and physically
because their needs are different from the needs of children in general. Therefore,
a facilitator is needed who can help children with special needs in developing selfdevelopment skills to be responsible for themselves. The shadow teacher is a
shadow teacher who is expected to be able to help children with special needs in
developing self-development abilities. This study explains how the role of the
Shadow Teacher has on the Development of Self-Development Ability for students
who have special needs which focuses on the role of the shadow for children with
special needs. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method.
The subject of this research is the shadow teacher in elementary school. Fathia
Islam. The data collection methods used in this research are field observations,
semi-structured interviews to obtain in-depth results, and documentation.
Researchers use content validation to test the relevance of research. Researchers
used data collection techniques with data reduction, data presentation and drawing
conclusions. The results of the study show that the shadow teacher has an important
role in helping the development of the self-development abilities of students with
special needs, according to the narrative of the class teacher who has a shadow
teacher in his class, children with a shadow teacher will be more able to attend
lessons, and the shadow teacher can educate children to become more independent.
