Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the use of flashcard learning media on the English vocabulary mastery of grade III students. This research is a research that uses a quantitative approach with the type of research that is quasi-experimental using the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population in this study were class III students at SDN 1 Karangtengah. The samples used in this study were 39 students in class III A at SDN 1 Karangtengah as the experimental class, and 40 students in class III B at SDN 1 Karangtengah as the control class. The research was conducted in 1 meeting in the experimental class and 1 meeting in the control class. The instrument used in this study was a test (pre-test and post-test) consisting of 20 pre-test questions and 20 post-test questions. The analysis of this study used the independent sample T test using SPSS 23. It is known that the significance value is sig. (2-tailed) 0.011 <0.05 which means that Ha is accepted, meaning that a model that has never been implemented before affects the results of English vocabulary mastery. The average value of English vocabulary mastery in learning using flashcard learning media in the experimental class was 82.17. The average value of English vocabulary mastery in learning without using flashcard learning media in the control class was 73.72. Based on this average value, the use of flashcard learning media has more influence on the mastery of English vocabulary for class III students at SDN 1 Karangtengah compared to the lecture and question and answer method alone without using flashcard learning media. The use of flashcard learning media also makes students more motivated, enthusiastic and active in learning English. Flashcards make students more quickly understand the meaning of a vocabulary, and make students remember information longer than conventional learning without using learning media
